Alvarez takes Asian Karting Open crown

John Alvarez of Team CRG, who is backed by Paramount Insurance and Castrol, ruled the Cadet 60 Class of the 2005 Asian Karting Open Championship at the Carmona Circuit last weekend. The 11-year old Alvarez, who posted the fastest lap time of 54.90 during the pre-game final, got caught up with a back marker to finish in second place but struck when it counted the most - in the 15 lap final where he led from start to finish. "It was a really exciting race," said Alvarez. "I had engine problems before the race but my mechanics did a very good job on my kart. It was really fun to fight for first place with the others who are really good." "He has really improved a lot since last year," said JP Tuason, president of Philippine International Karting Association who presented the awards after the race.
